Dobrev Cheese Store
Special and friendly, Dobrev’s Cheese Store presents to you the world of cheese – delicious and cozy, so that you’re going to love it forever.
I have been a fan of Dobrev’s smoked cheese since I was a child. That is why I was really happy when I came across their store in Sofia. The accent is put on Dobrev’s dairy products – mainly cheese made to original Bulgarian and Italian recipes. The range is complemented by various types of cheese by selected manufacturers from abroad, dried and smoked meats, pasta and wine.
The good news is that you can have this healthy and tasty food also for lunch. Dobrev’s Cheese Store offers freshly prepared sandwiches and salads, several desserts and the best lemonade in the world. Fresh and energizing, it is among the top drinks for summer.
Dobrev’s Cheese Store is located at 31, Fridtjof Nansen Str. in Sofia (Bulgaria) and is open from Monday – Saturday between 9:00-19:30.

Cupcake Art
What do cupcakes and art have in common? A lot, if you look at the Cupcake Art initiative of Take a Cake bakery in Sofia.
The special cupcake series present the art of several young artists who take up the challenge to create fun illustrations on St. Valentine’s theme. On the incredibly delicious cakes of Take a Cake you can find pictures created by Vesela Dantcheva and Ivan Bogdanov, Viki Knish, Elitsa Sarbinova, Inna Pavlova, Maria Donchevska, Mila Lozanova, Radostina Milusheva, Ralitsa Yaneva and Siana Zaharieva.
Have a look at the beautiful and delicious cakes in the gallery or the website of Take a Cake. Every series contains six cupcakes (vanilla or cocoa) that you get in nice box with a card from the author. The Cupcake Art pictures can be eaten too. Attention! They are delicious and cause smile.

Waterfall Restaurant
Another reason to visit the Philippines- there you can have a bite in the only restaurant under a waterfall (please, correct me if there are any other places like that?).
While we are enjoying temperatures well below zero, residents and visitors of the small town of Escudero are eating right under a waterfall. I hope this has inspired you for your summer vacation as much as it has inspired me!
Truc Troc
Truc Troc is a different form of presentation of modern art, which have began more than 30 years ago and is still enjoying a growing popularity.
This year's edition it took place during the past weekend in Brussels. The concept differs from conventional exhibitions because it allows the audience to communicate with the authors. Right at the entrance each visitor gets a pack of sticky notes and instructions to write an offer for each peace of art that they like. Furthermore one should add their contact info. At the end of the festival the artists receive all the proposals and choose the best deal.
To walk among the great paintings, photographs and sculptures was inspiring and reading offers could not but make you smile. All offers, from the funniest joke or the best kiss to a trip to Peru or a holiday on a Greek island, were worth it because they were from the heart.
Meeting: U-Lica
U-Lica.com?
U-Lica.com
Be Visible
I really enjoy telling you about impressive projects by young and promising artists, so I’d like to present you Be Visible by Milko Boyarov and Zlatimir Arakliev.
Be Visible embodies the idea of a series of jewelry by Milko Boyarov that reflect the light, fulfilling the desire of most women – to be seen. The project includes impressive photo session and video, created by the photographer Zlatimir Arakliev featuring the top model Iva Iankulova.
The inspiration for the series of jewelry – rings and bracelets, comes from the glowing jellyfish. The designer has strived to reflect their sense of mystery, futuristic energy and minimalism. During his work he aimed to clean the form as much as possible, leaving only the essential and augmenting effect of his main inspiration.
The team behind the concept and implementation of Be Visible includes: Milko Boyarov – jewelry design, Zlatimir Arakliev – photography and art direction, Iva Iankulova – model. For the video of the project joined also Marin Lalov – music and Ivan Popov – video editing.
You can see and buy jewelry by Milko Boyarov in shops at 5, Stefan Karadja Str. and 29 A, Hristo Belchev Str. in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Bronze domino
A favourite and well-known game in a new luxury form. Probably this would be the shortest definition of Bronze Bones.
The domino set is amazing – 28 parts, hand machined from blackened bronze. Bronze Bones is old in an equally impressive packaging – a leather bound hollowed-out boo, complete with a score pad, pencil and sharpener.
The design is done by The Principals. Well done, I should say! Their product not only meets my expectations but it is a good example of an original design that retains the spirit of the domino while getting in use of its potential as an artistic object.
I suppose you like Bronze Bones, so I’ll share with two more things – it is produced in a limited edition and its price is about 1500$.
REFEELINGS
Are there spare feelings? I ask myself this question while looking at the new exhibition REFEELINGS of the young talent Ivan Madjarov that is presented at ANIMA Art Gallery – Hilton Sofia.
Eleven oil paintings show human feelings and their destiny. They show you the wasted or spared feelings and make you think about what you have experienced and what you did not dare to live.
In the paintings I find chaotic, messy shapes and volumes, as well as numerous details that Madjarov managed to balance into a single, homogeneous atmosphere. Just like details want to find their exact place in the picture, the feelings look for their place in our life.
In some cases feelings empower us but in others – lead us to disappointment. Sometimes they are wasted and other times – spared by someone else or us. In these cases they pile up somewhere, where we don’t suspect about them. Both good and bad, they wait to be rediscovered.
Such is the fate of the objects that served as inspiration to Madjarov – discarded automobile and machine parts, cardboard boxes, shabby baby dolls. Although part of our daily lives, they stand somewhere unnoticed by us, but in one way or another they have their place in our life and hearts.
ANIMA Art Gallery presents the exhibition REFEELINGS by Iavn Madjarov from December 13, 2011 to February13, 2012 at Hilton Sofia.
Lick me up!
The most popular faces of our time become ice creams on sticks.
Although it is winter and everybody prefers having hot drinks I decided to share something cooling for the tongue and refreshing for the mind. STOYN Ice creams are made by a Russian advertising agency with the same name. They created a strawberry ice cream in the form of Marilyn Monroe, Tequila Sunrise ice cream in the form of Super Mario, Che Guevara as an ice cream with rum and few others.
Who would refuse such an ice cream, even in the winter?
+ tova
From some time I wanted to tell you about a nice place that is nestled among the quiet streets of Sofia’s center. '+ tova' is bright, spacious and adds a dose of positive energy to your day.
What to expect? Place for meetings and events, that has a kitchen, bar and shop, and makes you feel comfortable in its calm atmosphere. No smoking inside but there is an option for those who smoke – a special place outside with ashtrays and blankets for the winter months.
In the interior of "+ tova" you can clearly feel the sign of Funkt studio (Supa Star, Take a Cake) and find selected furniture by young Bulgarian designers – Konstantin Achkov, Peter Zaharinov, Rada Dicheva and others. Besides the fact that you can enjoy and use these designers’ items at the place, you have the opportunity to buy them too.
The place is based on self-service and its present menu offer delicacies that are not typical, but rather tied to special events (French pasta, quiche, sweet and savory baked goods), that you can find out about on its official site.
"+ tova" is located at 30, Marin Drinov Str. in Sofia and is open every day from 10:00 to 22:00.

Interactive art
‘The Fly’ is an interactive installation by rAndom International, that was shown at the Fourth Moscow Biennial of Contemporary Art 2011.
The installation is an abstract representation of a fly held captive inside a glass box. Eight centrally ensnared cables navigate the object that reacts to the movement of anyone nearby, contolled by eight synchronized motors.
Have a look at the interesting installation from the Moscow Biennial:
rAndom International is a studio created in 2002 that aims to extend the perspective of contemporary artistic practice. Working from the fringes of art, design, science and architecture, rAndom are developing projects and installations that re-interpret the ‘cold’ nature of technology and emphasize the interaction between the animate (audience) and the inanimate (object), bringing the two into a powerful relationship of performance.
Sofia Architecture Week 2...
Architecture Unlimited? This is the theme of this year’s edition of the international festival Sofia Architecture Week, that will take place between November 1st-6th, 2011.
Curators of SAW 2011 are Hans Ibelings – editor and co-founder of A10 (a magazine for new European architecture) and Ljubo Georgiev – architect and partner at the Rotterdam-based office de+ge architects. This year the festival will show that architecture is more than just building square meters, and has more to offer than a pragmatic answer to a practical question and to provide, or at least hint at, a possible future, an unexpected potential.
Sometimes architecture is not enough and solutions lie beyond its capabilities. SAW 2011 investigates the transformative power of architecture and analizes its abilities to stretch limits. The program presents practices that seek to transgress boundaries, formulate new tasks and deiscover new fields of action.
A walk in Munich
Probably the first thing that comes up on your mind when you hear Munich is the famous Oktoberfest but the city can offer a lot even beyond these few weeks when beer is all around.
The capital of Bavaria is nestled in the foothills of the Alps and impresses with its warm urban atmosphere. You can experience the charm of Munich both during the day while you are having a walk, and in the evening when a single step separates the silence of evening streets from the noisy nightlife.
A good starting point for a tour is the Marienplatz, where are the old and the new town hall and one of the main shopping streets Kaufingerstrasse. Nearby is the Frauenkirche church. In November and December the square hosts the Christkindlmarkt with stalls for Christmas gifts, and beer is replaced by gluehwein (mulled wine with spices) in combination with caramelized nuts and Christmas cookies.
Art has its place in Munich, so take the time to visit the Pinakothek (The Old, New and Modern) – one of the largest art galleries in the world. And if you find that the BMW automobiles are pieces of art, then I believe a visit to BMW Welt and the museum of the brand certainly have a place in your program.
As it comes to the cuisine, you can try traditional dishes such as grilled sausages, roast pork etc. in a Bavarian beer garden. You should know that cabbage is popular in their cuisine as well as good beer on the table.
